FAQs

Who creates the art?

All art is created by incarcerated people residing in the American Southwest.

How do artists get materials to create their works?

While some materials are provided by prison administrators, our artists purchase the majority of their own materials using funds from their prison accounts. These materials are often charged at higher rates than items sold outside of the prison, and most people make between 10 cents and 50 cents per hour at their jobs. Because incarcerated people are only allowed to purchase materials from state approved corporations, their materials are very expensive and hard to save for. Many artists rely upon family for financial assistance whereas others rely heavily on donations.

Can I reproduce or purchase the art?

How can I support artists?

If you would like to support our artists, please consider purchasing some of their work. If you would like to offer donations so that artists can purchase materials, please contact us here. You can also write to artists if you would like to share your appreciation for their work. All artists’ mailing information can be found on their artist page.
